We are excited to announce that Dr. Max Shad‘s [Formerly Mahmood] role within our organization has expanded significantly. In a joint appointment with the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural and Artificial Intelligence, Max has been named the Director of Engineering. This new position will see him leading Kempner Institute’s computational program, ensuring that Kempner scientists are equipped with the necessary High-Performance Computing (HPC) tools and expert software engineering support to fully utilize the institute’s advanced computational resources.
Max’s strong background in HPC and Machine Learning (ML) makes him the ideal candidate for this role. He will continue to lead our Research Software Engineering team at University Research Computing and Data Services (Univ. RCD), bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to this new challenge.
Max has been instrumental in advancing research software engineering in his previous roles at Harvard. He played a pivotal role in establishing Harvard’s first research software engineering team. In his new role, Max will supervise his team at Univ. RCD and use his expertise to build a similar team at Kempner Institute, focusing on machine learning and AI research. He will also be involved in strategic planning for new cluster hardware and networking, in collaboration with teams at Harvard and the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC).
